Surf (CSS)

Surf is a variant on the game Counter Strike: Source whereby players navigate through the map via slanted platforms or ramps. The goal being to either reach the end of the map and kill the rest of players or to simply surf around killing the other players at a leisurely pace.

How to surf
The basic principle to surfing is to hold the A key when the ramp is slanted like so \ and D when the ramp is slanted like /. The mouse is used for steering. Of course these are simple instructions and tougher maps often require a bit more technique. Never during surfing should you press W or S as this will result you stopping and often falling.
In order to gain speed in surf; you can use boosters that will propel you forwards automatically, tele hop in order to be thrown across the map, or work your way across the ramps by hitting the top of the ramp and then leaving it with a flick near the bottom of the ramp.
Map Types
Arena Surf
In this style of surf, play is often concentrated around a symmetrical map filled with all sorts of weapons with no actual area goal but rather just an arena in which to kill the other players. Examples include surf_buck maps.
Linear Surf
Although this map too is balanced for both team, the objective of these maps is to reach the end of the map in order to gain a more powerful weapon (Eg. AWP Sniper Rifle). If a player falls whilst surfing they will end up in jail. The game often leads towards a fire fight in jail. Examples include surf_rebel_resistance and surf_f0rbidden_ways_2nd.
The Server
The Mr Green surf server is an elegant 32 slot server that can be found at fenrir3.mr-green.nl:27015. It now has a large database of friendly regulars and runs hlxstats. (The stats webpage). The server uses sourcemod and features plugins such as noblock, quickdefuse and saysounds that makes for a fun, enjoyable environment to play in.
