Summary
Arena_nucleus is one of brand new maps, that came with the newest (sniper/spy) update. Together with arena_sawmill. This map was created by Valve.
This map features an original atmosphere, and takes place in some sort of bunker underground, but you can still see broadday light if you look up. You fight next to some sort of Core, and below that
there is a pit, in which you can fall and die in. The map has long sight lines, good for snipers, but still lots of cover for the other classes.
The map is shaped round, like arena_watchtower. It's symetrical, and looks hard at first, but gets used to afther a few rounds playing.
Nucleus doesn't have a 3D-skybox, and it doesn't need it, because you rarely look up, and you are in a pit.
What makes this map unique?
- Arena_nucleus's CP opens up afther the time has passed. Literally. The CP opens up, 2 hydraulic doors slide open, and 3 walkways shove towards the CP.
- It has a pit of death, below the CP.*core*
- This is one of the only maps where you can get a kill right before you spawn. Or the other way around.
Strategies
- As a Pyro or Scout, use the Flamethrower or Force-a-nature to push you enemies into the pit. You will kill them instantly.
- As a Sniper, move from the spawn forwar, so you have a clean sight of the enemy, and you might be able to pull off a few headshots A.K.A cheap kills. Beware! This is a common used strategy by most snipers, so you might get countersniped.
- As a Scout, jump towards the core, over the radioactive pit. Below the core, is a platform, with additional health. If you move on, and go straight to the red spawn, you can attack them in the back, without them even knowing it.
- As a Scout, you can jump up to the higher platforms where other classes can't get up to (except Soldiers or Demomen rocket/stickyjumping). You have a good view of the area and you can reach key locations without the enemy noticing.
